Walk A Mile In Our Shoes
We will be having our second annual “Walk A Mile In Our Shoes” event on October 1, 2022, at the Ellis County Courthouse. October is the national Domestic Abuse Awareness month and The Heights is a resource for domestic abuse victims to find safety and hope here in Ellis County. There are 1000 reported cases of domestic abuse in our county each year and 30% of cases often go unreported each year. The Heights began serving clients in 2021 and is currently serving more than 100 women and 60 children with homicide risk assessments, safety plans, and service plans. These plans include the following services to our clients: counseling, spiritual direction, food, legal assistance, addiction recovery, court advocacy, pet services, medical care, job training, transitional housing, and shelter. Survivors of domestic abuse experience great challenges and suffering from the people who are supposed to love them the most. We hope you will make plans to join us as we make some time to walk a mile in honor of Ellis County victims and survivors of domestic abuse. Registration is $25 per person.
