The Academy provides academic rigor and challenge to motivate and engage high achieving and gifted students.
The Academy extends and enriches instruction in state standards by adding depth and complexity through an integrated exploration of topics, a variety of learning activities including research and independent projects, and an accelerated pace of instruction. Students gain a pathway to honors and pre-AP courses at Sutter and Mitchell Middle schools.
Program Design
Core curriculum is enhanced with extended learning opportunities including:
- Reading – Junior Great Books
- Math – M2 and M3
- Writing – Being a Writer
- Science – FOSS
- Project Based Learning opportunities in science, history and mathematics
- Enrichment options vary by site and year but may include:
- Scripps Spelling Bee
- FLL Robotics
- Math League
- Science Fair
- History Day
- Theater Club
- Computer programming
- Gardening
- Foreign Language Club
- Chess Club
- Field Trips
